Serrano Ham and Orange Toasts

5 or 6 oranges
1 baguette, cut on the diagonal into 24 slices
10 to 15 garlic cloves, peeled
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/3 to 1/2 pound Serrano ham or prosciutto, thinly sliced

Prepare a fire in a barbecue or preheat a gas grill and rub the grill with olive oil. Cut the skin and white pith from the oranges, then cut oranges into 1/4 inch-thick slices, remove seeds and arrange slices in overlapping rows on a platter. On a table near the grill, arrange the bread in a basket, set out the platter of oranges, a bowl with the garlic cloves, the olive oil in an pourer with a spout and a plate of ham slices. Include tongs for turning the toasts. Guests grill their own toasts, then rub them with garlic, drizzle with olive oil, and top with a slice of ham and an orange slice.  Makes 24 appetizers
